| CONCERT-GOERS BATHED IN P!NK GLOW By Jane SmithThe town was painted pink last night as 2800 fans of pop singer Pink packed the Dunedin Town Hall to capacity. While most fans had to wait to see the American star in concert, Kylie Taggert (16) had caught a glimpse of her walking to the town hall earlier yesterday. While the singer's bodyguard tried to put her off, Kylie called out that it was her birthday, and Pink turned briefly and wished her happy birthday. "I stopped breathing. Omigod, she talked to me." Other fans had to wait longer to see the singer, born Alecia Moore. For Timaru girl Esther Hanson (11), who had been counting down the sleeps for more than a month, it was not a moment too soon. Rick Prasad (23) had won a double pass to the concert in a radio promotion and was considering accepting his flatmate's dare to "jump up on stage and at least kiss her". "Pink is going to rock," he said. Dressed in pink shirts and wearing pink furry headbands, Oamaru fans Darlene McLay (17) and Kathryn Devon (16) had travelled to Dunedin for the concert with friends. The parents of both girls had bought the concert tickets for them on the promise of repayment, but had later said the tickets were a gift. "We've been excited for ages," Kathryn said. They knew most of the words to Pink's songs and were ready to sing along but would have to be "carried away" to get up and dance. Although the girls were Pink fans, they were even more excited about the concert when they discovered up and coming Kiwi hip hop band Nesian Mystik was playing as well. The band is opening all of Pink's concerts in New Zealand, but is yet to meet the entertainer herself. "We're not meeting her until Wellington," rapper Feleti Strickson-Pua said. "It doesn't worry us. We're pretty laid back. We just take it as it comes."

| P!NK WANTS TO GET ARRESTED FOR PETA Marc S. Malkin of New York Magazine reports that during the MTV Europe Music Awards in Barcelona, one of their spies spotted Pink signing copies of PETA's Animal Times magazine. This was just after word hit that PETA protesters had invaded Gisele Bündchen's catwalk at the Victoria's Secret show. Pink told her fans that she not only wants to start protesting for animal rights but would be happy to get arrested. Her manager, Craig Logan, overheard her but wasn't too thrilled: He made her promise not to do anything that would land her behind bars until after her world tour.Source: RNBDirt.com | ||||||||||||||

| P!NK PUMPED PETROL Pop star Pink hasn't always led a glamorous lifestyle - she used to work at a delicatessen and a petrol station just to survive. The star worked in a variety of low-paying jobs when she was first making her way in the music world, and says it never bothered her. But it did bother music mogul Antonio 'LA' Reid, her boss at LaFace records, who was furious when his son spotted her at work and ordered her to quit immediately. Pink says, "The next day I was in his office getting reamed out, 'What does it look like for my next superstar to be working in a freaking gas station?'" "And I said, 'I'm not quitting'. 'Yes you are! You're gonna quit.' I said, 'F***ing pay me! Pay me what I get in my pay cheque every week or I'm not quitting'. And I put my hand out." Source: Soundbuzz.com | ||||||||||||||

| NEW KID P!NK LOVED NEW KIDS Pop music has always been Pink's first love, and so was former New Kids On The Block star Donnie Wahlberg. The wild girl, whose first album Can't Take Me Home shot her to fame, isn't ashamed of being a boyband groupie. While most girls lusted after the pretty boys of the band, Pink favoured Mark Wahlberg's manic brother Donnie. The singer says, "I have always loved pop music. I went to New Kids On The Block concerts. I am not going to lie - I did. And I screamed. He was the bad boy. And I wanted him so bad!" Source: Soundbuzz.com | ||||||||||||||

| P!NK DEFIES CRITICS Wild child rocker Pink was told by her teachers she wouldn't make it as a pop star. The singer, 22, refused to do her homework, while telling teachers she was off to concerts. They had little faith, and gave her limited career advice.Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore says, "They were like, 'Whatever. The girl's living in dreamland.'" "But I can't remember thinking I'd do anything else. I just didn't believe there was another place for me on this earth than to make music. I'm so anti-authority that I could never have a regular job. I've always been into poetry and arts and dancing and drinking and it just seemed the only thing, it just seemed natural." | DESTINY'S CHILD, P!NK, MYA JOIN DAMON ELLIOTT'S DIONNE WARWICK DUET PROJECT Hotshot songwriter/producer salutes mom on three-volume set.by Jon Wiederhorn No matter how much fun you're having, how busy you are or how important your job is, family should always come first. That's why hotshot producer and songwriter Damon Elliott is taking time between working with Mya, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles and Jessica Simpson to put together a tribute box set with his mother, soulful '60s pop singer Dionne Warwick. "I'm a mamma's boy," proclaimed Elliott. "She's the one that wiped my a-- when I messed up and the first to congratulate me when I have had success." Elliott hopes for a September 2003 release for the three-volume set, which will feature 40 of Warwick's songs performed by her and a cavalcade of stars, including Mya, Destiny's Child, Faith Evans, Pink, Elton John and Gladys Knight. The box will celebrate Warwick's 40 years in the business and was partially inspired by a similar duet album released by Frank Sinatra that included U2's Bono, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin and others. "That Sinatra record was crazy," Elliott said. "So I want to do something like that. My mom is a living legend, so I said, 'Mom, let's go. I'm in the position where I can get any artist. Let me make a couple of phone calls and let's make this happen.' " So far, Elliott has locked in Knight for "I Never Felt This Way," Mya for "Close to You," and new artist Keisha Cole for "I'll Never Love This Way Again." The other acts are still deciding on their tracks and Elliott is still looking for others to contribute. Regardless of how successful the set winds up being, for Elliott it's a labor of love and a way to give back to the woman who inspired him to reach the heights he's scaled. "I credit her with everything," he said. "She had me in the studio with Quincy Jones when I was a kid. She had me in the studio with Burt Bacharach and Clive Davis, all these producers and engineers. Of course, if I wasn't around those influences I probably would be doing the same thing, but probably not on the same level." This report is from MTV News. Source: VH1.com | ||||||||||||||

| First Night reviews : P!nk By Lisa VerricoTHERE were two types of female fan at Pink’s Brixton Academy gig. One lot had short, spiky hair, wore tight, trendy clothes and looked like the singer when she launched her career two years ago with the urban R&B album Can’t Take Me Home. The others could have been Kelly Osbourne clones, which turned out to be more appropriate. With her second album, Missundaztood, Pink has morphed from a cute, hip-hop-pop girl into a Gothic rock chick. A rock soundtrack blasted out before the show started, there was a trio of guitars lined up at the side of the stage and an enormous drumkit on a platform at the back. A mixed-gender band dressed like extras from Spinal Tap got things going with a noisy instrumental before Pink appeared looking like, well, another Kelly Osbourne clone. Her once-taut tummy hung out over baggy, black trousers cropped below the knee, her ample chest was squashed into a strappy denim top too small to hide her white bra, she had studded leather bands around her wrists and silver chains hanging from her hips and on her feet were big, black lace-up boots. Sadly, Pink doesn’t dance any more. Instead, she stomped about the stage during the set-opener Get the Party Started, the first of four hit singles from Missundaztood and really not a rock song at all, although no one seemed to notice. Next up was the album’s title track, complete with squalling but softcore guitar solos and Pink delivering her lines lying on her back, between the legs of a dreadlocked female guitarist. It should have been sexy, but it was far too staged. It got worse. She pulled up a chair and encouraged everyone to join in a cover of 4 Non Blondes’ early 1990s hit What’s Up. Incredibly, everyone knew the words to what Pink has frequently described as her favourite song — she asked 4 Non Blondes’ singer Linda Perry to help her to write and produce Missundaztood. Then it was glowsticks out for the rock ballad Dear Diary, which was followed by a rap about respecting women. There You Go was the only blast from Pink’s R&B past. Instead, before the recent chart topper Like a Pill and the new single Family Portrait ended the set, there was a bizarre tribute to Janis Joplin and the dubious My Vietnam, during which war photos flashed up on a screen. On record, Pink plays the rock chick pretty well. Live, she just sounded cheesy. Source: Times Online | ||||||||||||||

| P!NK GOES GREEN IN DUBLIN US Punk Rock chick Pink rocked Dublin's Point Theatre last night and sent the crowd into a frenzy with her choice of attire. The controversial singer, who surprisingly didn't have her trademark pink hair, danced across the stage in front of the sellout crowd wrapped in the Irish flag to chants of Ole Ole Ole. Pink must have feared that the Irish cold weather would interfere with her anatomy as she had tape X'ed across her nipples underneath her skimpy white top. The star played all of her latest hits and flirted with her band members on-stage... And the crowd loved it! | P!NK ROCKS LIVE! We sent our roving reporter, Karen McIntosh off to the Emerald Isle to see the opening night of P!nk's mini tour. Read on to see what she thought. The lights dim down. Smoke fills the stage and the instrumental of P!nks Cant Take Me Home smash Most girls fills the theatre….Suddenly it stops and P!nk bounces onstage “I’m coming up, so you better get the party started” she sings. The crowd goes wild!!!P!nk has arrived. After months of headlining theatres and touring arenas with Lenny Kravitz in the States, P!nk has finally reached the UK and Ireland, embarking on a 4-date sell out, whirlwind tour. P!nk rocks….literally, gone are the days of the silky smooth RnB tunes and choreographed dance routines, Its all about Guitars, drums and rocking out at this show and P!nk pulls it off so well. She steams through a pre-dominantly M!ssundaztood set including the tracks Respect, Numb, 18 Wheeler, Just like a pill, the forthcoming single Family Portrait and an emotional performance of My Vietnam. She throws us a few surprises with her Janis Joplin tribute and her outstanding rendition of the 4 Non Blondes classic What’s Up? Of course, and not to be overlooked P!nk is a vocalist, she sounds amazing with performance of Dear diary, Eventually and the amazing blues track Misery. The crowd cant get enough and almost like little interludes P!nk jokes about with the audience making each venue feel special, wrapping herself in the Irish flag at the Dublin concert which went down a storm. She knows how to work the crowd and how to work the stage and is if lost in the music before you know it, she is belting out her encore finishing with the new teen anthem Don’t let me get me. P!nk tells the crowd she loves them and leaves the stage. The lights go up. The buzzing crowd break into spontaneous chanting of Get the party started. She came, She played, She conquered. | PINK DELIGHTS DINERS WITH IMPROMPTU GIG Rock chic Pink staged an impromptu free gig for diners at a top Manchester, England restaurant - by belting out some tunes to unsuspecting diners.Customers eating at the US$112 -a-head River Room restaurant were stunned when the American star got up on her table and serenaded them for more than two hours, singing classics such as "Come Fly With Me" and "Evergreen". The 23-year-old star then announced, "That's all folks - thanks for coming." The after-dinner gig occurred when Pink checked into Manchester's five-star Lowry Hotel before performing at the city's Apollo Theatre. Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, was dining with three friends, but was engrossed in a conversation on her mobile phone throughout the meal. One onlooker said, "During dinner, it seemed obvious Pink had noticed the resident pianist in the adjoining bar, and went over with a friend to chat to him. She then found a microphone and started belting out her hits to all of us - we couldn't believe it. "She was really getting into the spirit of things as she danced around the piano, coaxing her other friends to join in the fun" ![]() | ||||||||||||
