PINK - ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE

April 26th

The last time Sydney had a chance to see Alecia "Pink" Moore in action was some 16 months ago, when she bounded onstage in a VB singlet before an audience way too young to drink at the short-lived pop festival, Rumba.

Back then, the 24-year-old's mentor and co-writer was butch one-hit wonder-turned-songwriting Svengali, Linda Perry, who successfully helped Pink make the tricky transition from teen idol du jour to credible artist.

In an attempt to sustain this momentum, Pink went for an even edgier principal collaborator on her latest album, Try This: Tim Armstrong, a grandpa of the modern punk-rock scene as frontman for 1990s heroes Rancid.

It's this "evolution", as Pink later calls it, that we get to celebrate on this night with the buoyant and flamboyant star.

She is lowered onto the stage in a cage, a giant pink mohawk straddling her head, as dancers dressed as gunslingers thrust along to There you go.

The earlier material is funky rather than punky, all staccato beats and stuttering rhythms, before the sassy, sleazy soul of Lady Marmalade provides the first of many highlights.

Fishnet and feather boa-clad blow-up dolls replaced the missing collaborators of the single, Pink paying particular tribute to the Christina Aguilera doll (and Perry) with a blast of their Beautiful. We move into rockier terrain with the guitars taking the lead during the anthemic songs of the Missundaztood album.

All the while, Pink expertly works the crowd, the screens and even one lucky punter, who gets strapped to a chair for a teasing lap dance during Respect.

There are engaging theatrics throughout, moving moments in Family Portrait and My Vietnam, and even a juicy burst of acid house before God is a DJ.

By the time we get past an acoustic medley of Janis Joplin songs that show off a mighty, surprisingly versatile voice, she's at her third costume change and getting it on with her (female) dancers.

PINK IN PEERLESS JOPLIN TRIBUTE

April 26th

FROM Cirque du Soleil-inspired acrobatics to a gravel-throated Janis Joplin tribute, Pink has staked her claim as the top female entertainer in the business with a brilliant performance at Sydney Entertainment Centre.

Pink called last night's show an evolution and it was staged in three acts to encapsulate the three disparate albums which have sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. Descending in a cage, Pink romped through the first act celebrating the R&B-inspired debut album, Can't Take Me Home.

Even when performing highly choreographed dance scenes or indulging in frantic Three Stooges-style punch-ups, Pink kept up and hit every note where lesser artists would have let the backing vocalists carry the tune.

The second act covered her move into a rockier and emotionally edgier album, Missundaztood, with highlights including the power ballad Family Portrait and Just Like A Pill.

As if auditioning for the role she has already scored, Pink proved no-one else could play Janis Joplin as she sang Summertime, and Me and Bobby McGee, accompanied only by acoustic guitar.

There were few left unconvinced by the power of those pipes by the end of the set.

Pink tipped her hat to and played with plenty of other pop culture references, from her on-going sledgefest with Christina Aguilera to Elvis.

And who knew there were still so many glow sticks left in Sydney?

BLACK THE NEW PINK

April 25th

Ladies and gentleman, it's . . . ink! That's ink as in inky black, the goth-tastic new colour of Alecia Moore's hair.

Moore - better known to fans of naughty-but-nice pop as Pink - used to have pink hair, which had a certain logic. Then she went bleached blonde (the colour she sports in advertisements for a certain soft drink that are plastered all over Sydney's bus shelters).

Paraded briefly yesterday in front of the million-dollar boats and well-heeled diners at Woolloomooloo's Finger Wharf, the 24-year-old from Doylestown, Pennsylvania showed off a new look that was a bit more Morticia Addams than Marilyn Monroe.

The bruise-coloured red lipstick, imposing silver necklace, studded biker belt and black stack heels all seemed to confirm her continuing role as pop music's Anti-Britney.

Pink, who performs at the Sydney Entertainment Centre this weekend, agrees she's still the same tattooed, party-starting gal she always was. She is, as the title of her recent single implies, Trouble.

"Yeah, it's just how I am," said the singer, who made her debut at 13, performing with a Philadelphia rap crew.

"You run into trouble when you're an honest person and you just wanna have fun regardless of the consequences."

She declares herself amazed that photos of her locking lips on a dancefloor with Kristanna Loken, the statuesque blonde star of Terminator 3, caused such a stir.

"I'm amazed that people thought that was a publicity stunt," she says. "That's not in my character. She kissed me."

Was it a good kiss, at least?

"Oh yeah, she's a good kisser, but she was trying to dominate me," said Pink mysteriously. "I will not be dominated."

Pink, like Edith Piaf, has no regrets. But she says she's learned to be "wiser" and sometimes censor herself. For example, she will no longer comment on her rival Christina Aguilera, a woman she once declared was in need of "medication". Perhaps she's heeded the advice of the tattoo that encircles her wrist: "What goes around, comes around."

Pink's quest for new thrills saw her collaborating with Tim Armstrong, from the US punk group Rancid, on her latest album Try This. "He's rad. He's such a cool guy," she said yesterday. "It was cool to see how humble he is, how talented is and he kept me on my toes."

Sadly, Australians have been rather less willing to Try This than its double-platinum-selling predecessor M!zzundaztood.

P!NK BRINGS MOHICAN BACK TO DUBLIN...

February 20th

Punk Pop Princess Pink opened her European tour in Dublin last night amid six-shooter guns and foot-high Mohican hair styles to the delight of her Irish fans.

Pink's stage show last night in The Point Theatre looked like something between The Gun Fight in the OK Corral and Mad Max Enter the Thunder Dome.

Pink mixed it up with her dancers dressed in costumes that looked like a cross between The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly meets Blade Runner.

At one stage she flirted with a six-foot high mirror and even pulled out her six-shooter.

Watch out for Pink when she comes to a venue near you...

P!NK FIRES OFF ANGRY LETTER TO VOGUE

August 10th

Pink faxed a handwritten note to Vogue editor Anna Wintour on Tuesday admonishing her to "modernize your magazine and stop promoting fur." She goes on to say, "I wouldn't be seen dead in the stuff. If your readers knew the horrors that these animals go through to supply a hairy swath of skin... they would gag."

P!NK ASKS VOGUE TO SHED FUR FROM ITS PAGES

August 7th

Pink believes one of the best ways to make sure fur isn't in vogue is to make sure it isn't in Vogue. The singer has written to Anna Wintour, asking the famously fur-wearing editor to stop promoting fur in her trendsetting magazine.

Pink's handwritten note, faxed Tuesday afternoon, urges Wintour to "modernize your magazine and stop promoting fur." If that isn't possible, Pink asks that Vogue at least allow organizations such as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to run anti-fur ads for balance.

The singer also writes that "many designers, unaware of my respect for animals, have sent me fur in every shade of pink. I would like to say I've always been fur-free. Unfortunately, I went through a selfish phase and wore fur on a couple of occasions. I've since learned how animals are trapped, drowned and even beaten to death in the woods and in streams, and hideously electrocuted and strangled on fur farms, and I wouldn't be seen dead in the stuff. If your readers knew the horrors that these animals go through to supply a hairy swath of skin, coated with chemicals to stop it from decomposing, they would gag. Won't you use your unique position to help fashion evolve rather than rot?"

This is not the first time Pink has allied herself with PETA's anti-fur campaign. Last year the singer posed in a poster celebrating New York club Centro-Fly's fur-free policy. She replaced Britney Spears, who pulled out of the campaign once media reports suggested she would be posing nude, à la PETA's "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign (see "Fur Flies Between Britney And PETA").

While Pink's letter urged Vogue to follow fashion's cue and "change with the times," PETA's decade-plus campaign against the magazine has become more fashionable as well. During PETA's initial campaigns, which employed guerrilla tactics, Kate Pierson of the B-52's was arrested for storming the magazine's offices in 1993.

Wintour herself was often a PETA target. Her visage was used in unflattering campaigns with slogans like "Fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly people," designed to portray her as a real-life Cruella de Vil. An animal-rights activist once dumped a dead raccoon on her plate while she ate lunch at the Four Seasons in Manhattan.

Based on those actions, Vogue began rejecting PETA ads sight unseen. Since then, the group has tried for relatively tamer anti-fur campaigns, such as sponsoring its own runway shows with fashions of fur-free designers, instead of disrupting others.

Activists still splatter fake blood and throw tofu cream pies at the doors of Vogue's offices, but a more common tactic now is to jam the magazine's phone lines on the day of ad sales closings.

A spokesperson for Vogue had no comment on Pink's letter.

New Pink due in November, arrest warrant issued for Vince

PINK will release her third album, Try This, on November 11th. PEACHES and LINDA PERRY are among the artists she has been working with for the record. "She sent me a song and said, 'This song needs you on it!,'" Peaches says of the song "Oh My God." "She took a red eye to New York Friday night, we went to the studio, it took an hour, 'cause she had her shit together" . . .

TRY THIS - NOVEMBER 11TH

August 4th

Details on Pink's upcoming album have been hard to come by this summer — until now. Due in stores on November 11, the singer's album now has a tentative title, Try This.

The track list is still under wraps, but the first single — also tentative — will most likely be called "God Is a DJ," an energetic, melodic pop song that merges Pink's exuberant dance-floor energy with a grinding, rock edge.

On the hook, Pink sings, "If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor, love is a river, and you are the music/ If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor, you get what is given, it's all how you use it."

During an internal Arista Records event in New York on Tuesday, label president Antonio "LA" Reid said he was blown away with Pink's vocal prowess on her new material, particularly the emotional ballad "Catch Me While I'm Sleeping." "She's really showing off her vocal talents on this album," Reid said.

While Pink has remained mum on Try This, others have spilled some of the beans. Songwriter Linda Perry, who worked with Pink on her multiplatinum Missundaztood, confessed that she was again collaborating with the singer. She indicated that the songs this time around would be much lighter emotionally than on the last album.

Rancid's Tim Armstrong has said he's been writing songs with Pink, but when asked about it recently, Pink said, "I don't tell who I'm working with yet." Pink's reps would also not confirm his involvement.

P!NK AS A POSSIBLE BOND GIRL?

August 3rd

According to self professed "gossip guru" Sky News' Neil Sean, singer Pink is supposedly "being lined up for a role" in Bond 21. In a recent poll in the US, singer Pink was voted one of the most influential people for young teens to emulate, and after she scored a worldwide hit with the theme tune to the latest Charlie Angels flick Full Throttle "Feel Good Time", Sean writes that he can "reveal she is being lined up for a role in the next James Bond film."

Supposedly she has no desire to play "a fluffy girl".

She apparently wants to make Bond fall for her in an adventurous role - she has no intention of being soppy.

I must stipulate that any information regarding the forthcoming Bond film is merely rumour, and has to be treated as such until confirmed by either Eon or MGM.

P!NK READIES 'FEEL GOOD' SONG OF THE SUMMER, WORKS ON NEW LP

May 8th

Pink is about to submit her entry for the feel-good song of the summer — and appropriately enough, it's called "Feel Good Time."

The lead single from the upcoming sequel to the box-office hit "Charlie's Angels," Pink's soon-to-be-released song is the first glimpse at what direction the pop singer might be taking for her in-progress next album.

"Feel Good Time" has electro flourishes (courtesy of William Orbit) spiraling around each other and a groove reminiscent of Beck circa his fun period (no wonder — it was written by the postmodern folkster himself). Seeming to describe her character in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," the lyrics ponder the life an operator of an underground motorcycle club must lead.

"We go where we like/ We got overtime/ We get paid to rattle our chains," Pink sings in a slightly lower-register sing-songy voice. "Sleeping in the church/ Riding in the dirt/ Put a banner over my grave ... / Show me something big and untamed ... / We know how to pray/ Party every day/ Make our desolation a play/ Riding in a rut/ Till the powers gut/ We don't even have a good name."

Last fall the singer filmed her part in the movie, in which she appears during a motocross scene, as does her boyfriend, real-life motocross champion Carey Hart.

Pink and director Dave Meyers shot a video Sunday and Monday for "Feel Good Time," which is scheduled to premiere later this month. Hart, though present for the Los Angeles shoot, doesn't appear in the video, which features motocross racing and explosions on the beach. Those scenes were shot at an export terminal at Los Angeles International Airport and Malibu's Westward Beach, respectively. MTV's "Making the Video: Pink" debuts May 19 at 5 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, Pink continues to toil away in a Los Angeles recording studio on her follow-up to Missundaztood. A spokesperson for the singer's record label said it's too early to tell which producers or collaborators would make the cut for the album, which is due in November. At least one of those collaborators, however, is Linda Perry, according to Perry's management and Pink's Web site.

"Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" hits theaters June 27, while the soundtrack hits stores June 17.

Prince wants pop favourites at his 21st bash
By Suzanne Kerins And David Rowe

PRINCE William is hoping that tattooed wild child Pink will really get his 21st birthday started.

The Prince is a big fan of the 23-year-old American singer and has put her on a wish list of artists he wants to appear at his party in June.

He will be having a formal coming-of- age do at Windsor Castle on the actual day of his birthday - June 21. But it's his unofficial bash, which is likely to take place at Highgrove, where he plans to let his hair down by holding a private pop concert.

Chart-toppers Pink, Coldplay and Shania Twain are the acts he has set his heart on.

An insider said: "Prince William is very happy with the Windsor Castle event, but he also wants a party that won't be as formal where he can let his hair down with his friends.

"He feels that a party with big bands performing will be much more enjoyable for his group of young friends.

"He knows it's going to be difficult to get Coldplay as they will be touring overseas, but he's made it clear he would like them there. It's also the same with Pink, who is busy recording an album at the moment.

"Everything is in the very early stages."

Ozzy Osbourne, Emma Bunton and Britney Spears are also acts the Prince has expressed an interest in helping him to celebrate.

The Royal Family, who regard 21 rather than 18 as the official coming of age, are pulling out all the stops to make sure the Windsor Castle party is a great success.

But it will be the unofficial party at Highgrove, the private residence of Prince Charles since 1980, where William will be able to invite his close pals. A lot of them will include friends from St Andrew's, where he is studying history of art and anthropology.

Among those likely to be invited is the Prince's flatmate Kate Middleton, who famously wore a transparent lace dress during a university catwalk appearance, and the Hon Virginia Fraser, daughter of Lloyds underwriter Lord Strathalmond. Both girls were among the guests at a shooting party hosted by the Prince at Sandringham last year.

The contract for the official celebrations has been awarded to Michael Fawcett, the Prince of Wales's former aide who resigned recently over the "gifts for sale" scandal.

MADONNA BLATS MANUFACTURED POP

April 1st

Pop superstar Madonna has criticised the trend for manufactured pop acts and the recent stream of TV talent searches. She said the pop world had become "homogenised", and accused record companies of putting marketing ahead of talent.

In an interview with Q magazine, Madonna, 44, also criticised the idea of craving celebrity status for its own sake - rather than achieving it through ability.

Referring to shows like Popstars and American Idol, she said: "I arrived at a different time - before the time of svengalis holding talent searches; finding a girl that looks right and can carry a tune and then figuring a way to market her."

'Powerful illusion'

Discussing Pink, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, she said: "I'm not saying those girls can't grow into something, but I really don't know where we're going with the world.

"Everything's so homogenised."

It was wrong to seek fame for its own sake, she added.

Madonna is the most commercially successful female artist of all time, with worldwide record sales of more than 140 million including albums True Blue, Immaculate Collection and Ray of Light.

But her acting career has not reached the same levels of success, with critical acclaim proving harder to come by.

Last week she swept the Razzies for the worst film of the year, with Swept Away which was directed by her husband, Guy Ritchie.

"RESPECT" FEATURED IN GAME AMPLITUDE [SONY PS2]

March 13th

THEME In the game, songs are rendered visually as neon highways, with each lane representing a different musical part--drum, bass, guitar, vocals--that players remix by navigating in a spiffy spacecraft. To win, zoom around the track and tap buttons in time--move fast enough, and tap accurately enough, and the song comes to life. PLAYABILITY Each level is based on a recognizable hit single. But since contestants can rip through, say, Pink's "Respect" in a different way each go-round, no level--or song--ever has to be the same, making Amplitude infinitely replayable.

DRIVEN / RISE AND RISE OF P!NK

March 08th

This was typed out by L!nn (thank you so much) and posted in Pinks Split Personality Clique. It is a transcript of the TV Show VH1 Driven.

Judy: Alecia was born on September 8. 1979 in Alkins Park, Pennsylvania.

Jim: The doctor handed her to me and…I remember counting fingers and toes, making sure there was 10 of each.

Judy: She was a healthy baby when she was born, and till about 3 weeks of age…

Jim: We realised very early on that she had asthma. It was very frightening because, you know, if she had an asthma attack, she could die.

Judy: It's scary when your child is gasping for breath and you're running into the emergency room to get adrenaline shots.

UPDATE ON CAREY HART'S WEBSITE (www.hartattack.tv )

March 08th

Carey's website has been updates with photo's from the 2003 Grammys.

Hart goes to NYC!!!

I had the pleasure of joining Carey Hart to the Big Apple to attend the 2003 Grammy Awards with his girl Pink. In a word the trip was incredible!!!

Although Pink did not win any Grammy’s she was stoked to attend and she threw a huge party for friends, family and industry types. Candy Ass one of Pink’s favorite bands rocked the house as Pink and Carey danced and celebrated the fact that Pink sold 10 million albums. I got to be the fly on the wall snapping photos, doing some filming for Pink for a documentary film that her and I are producing. The film will be released shortly after her next album.
